Fogo Island Inn, Joe Batt's Arm (Canada)

Discover website ↗

Perched on the ancient rock of Fogo Island off the northeastern coast of Newfoundland, Fogo Island Inn is one of the world’s most singular places to stay — a Relais & Châteaux member and Three MICHELIN Keys recipient that redefines what a hotel can mean. Designed by architect Todd Saunders, the striking structure rises on stilts above the subarctic shoreline, its angular silhouette both alien and inevitable against a landscape shaped by glaciers and the North Atlantic.

Each of the 29 individually designed rooms frames floor-to-ceiling ocean views, furnished with pieces crafted by local artisans whose traditions stretch back generations. The experience is fully all-inclusive: meals built around the island’s own fishers and foragers, guided forays into boreal wilderness, and an unhurried immersion into outport Newfoundland life that no itinerary can fully anticipate.

Founded by Zita Cobb as a vehicle for community regeneration, the Inn channels its surplus back into the island itself — making every stay an act of reciprocity as much as indulgence. This is luxury with a conscience, and a landscape with no equal.
