Abisko Aurora Sky Station, Abisko (Sweden)

Discover website ↗

Perched near the summit of Mount Nuolja within the pristine wilderness of Abisko National Park, the Aurora Sky Station occupies one of the most privileged vantage points on the planet. At an elevation that places it above the valley’s low-lying cloud formations, this remarkable outpost benefits from a rare meteorological anomaly — a persistent gap in the cloud cover known as the « blue hole of Abisko » — which grants visitors a disproportionate number of clear, star-filled nights compared to the surrounding Arctic region.

From the station’s sweeping outdoor terrace and elevated viewing tower, the panorama unfolds across the frozen expanse of Lake Torneträsk, the iconic U-shaped valley of Lapporten, and the vast silence of Swedish Lapland. When the aurora borealis ignites the sky in cascading curtains of emerald and violet, the experience transcends spectacle — it becomes something deeply elemental. The station also offers Nordic dining, allowing guests to savour northern Swedish cuisine while the heavens perform above. Accessible by chairlift from STF Abisko Turiststation, this is aurora viewing elevated to an art form.
