|Preikestolen Pulpit Rock Forsand, Norway ⚲
This dramatic natural cliff formation soars 604 metres above the deep blue waters of Lysefjorden in the Ryfylke region of Western Norway. Preikestolen, known internationally as Pulpit Rock, is a near-perfect square plateau of granite carved by glacial forces during the last Ice Age, its flat summit measuring roughly 25 by 25 metres and offering an unobstructed, vertiginous view straight down the fjord walls.
Reaching the rock demands an 8-kilometre round-trip hike through birch forest, glacial lakes and exposed rock steps, rewarding hikers with one of Scandinavia’s most photographed panoramas. There are no barriers at the edge, lending the site an untamed, elemental intensity rare among natural landmarks of this fame. Morning light on the fjord, sudden mist, and the sheer scale of the drop create a mood equally serene and humbling.
A pilgrimage site for hikers and photographers alike, Preikestolen embodies the raw, unguarded beauty that defines Norway’s fjord country.
