A natural turquoise lagoon nested within the vast atoll of Rangiroa, the Blue Lagoon is one of French Polynesia’s most mesmerizing sights — a lagoon inside a lagoon, cradled between the motu of Tereia and Taeo’o in the Tuamotu Archipelago.

Ringed by eight coral islets scattered with coconut palms and blinding white and pink sand, its shallow waters shift through an impossible spectrum of blues, from pale aquamarine to deep sapphire. Reef sharks glide lazily through the transparent shallows, rays skim the sandy floor, and tropical fish dart among coral gardens just beneath the surface.

Reachable only by boat after roughly an hour’s crossing from Avatoru, the Blue Lagoon feels genuinely untouched — no structures, no crowds, only wind, water, and the hush of the South Pacific.
