A natural marine wilderness of extraordinary beauty, the Rock Islands Southern Lagoon shelters the Seventy Islands (Ngerukewid) within a UNESCO World Heritage mosaic of over 400 mushroom-shaped limestone islets rising from Palau’s turquoise waters. Draped in dense jungle and undercut by centuries of wave erosion into narrow emerald stems, these uninhabited islands form a strictly protected wildlife preserve, closed to landing but endlessly photographed from the surrounding channels.

Threading between them, the turquoise channels reveal a shifting palette of jade, sapphire and milky aquamarine as sunlight filters through shallow reef flats and plunges into deep blue trenches. Hidden marine lakes, ancient rock art, and WWII relics lie tucked among the islets, while manta rays, reef sharks and sea turtles glide through waters ranked among the richest coral ecosystems on Earth.
