A natural turquoise lake cradled within the jagged limestone cliffs of Coron Island, Kayangan Lake is widely regarded as the cleanest and most beautiful lake in the Philippines. Its glassy, mineral-clear waters shift from deep emerald to pale jade, revealing submerged rock formations and schools of fish suspended as if in mid-air.

Reached by a short but steep wooden stairway that climbs over a karst ridge, the lake reveals itself suddenly from a viewpoint framed by ancient limestone towers draped in tropical greenery — one of the most photographed panoramas in Southeast Asia. Beneath the surface, freshwater and seawater layers create a striking thermocline, and swimmers can glide through caverns carved into the rock.

The lake and surrounding island are sacred ancestral domain of the Tagbanua indigenous people, who have protected this land for generations and now manage access to preserve its fragile ecosystem. Visiting Kayangan is less a stop and more a quiet communion with one of the planet’s most pristine natural sanctuaries.
