A pristine natural beach and tidal inlet forming one of the most photographed coastal landscapes in the Southern Hemisphere. Whitehaven Beach unfurls for seven kilometres along the eastern edge of Whitsunday Island, its sand composed of almost pure silica so fine it squeaks underfoot and reflects sunlight without retaining heat.

At its northern tip, Hill Inlet reveals an ever-shifting mosaic where tidal currents swirl brilliant turquoise water through ribbons of white sand, creating patterns that change hourly with the tide. Viewed from the Tongue Point lookout within Whitsunday Islands National Park, the scene appears almost painted, a marbled interplay of cobalt, jade and ivory framed by dense eucalypt forest.

Part of the Ngaro Sea Country, this landscape holds deep significance for the region’s traditional custodians. Accessible only by boat or seaplane, it remains gloriously undeveloped, a rare pocket of the Great Barrier Reef coastline preserved in its wild, elemental state.
