A natural turquoise lagoon nestled within a lagoon, the Blue Lagoon lies between the motu of Taeo’o and Tereia on the remote western rim of Rangiroa Atoll, in the Tuamotu Archipelago of French Polynesia. Here, a shallow basin of impossibly luminous water is sheltered by a slender ring of coral sand and swaying coconut palms, cut off from the ocean swell and warmed to bathwater temperature.

Reached only by boat across Rangiroa’s vast interior sea, the Blue Lagoon rewards the journey with an almost otherworldly stillness: reef sharks glide in the shallows, manta rays pass in the deeper channels, and a private white-sand islet offers respite for swimming, snorkeling and quiet contemplation.
