|Kelingking Beach Nusa Penida, Klungkung, Bali, Indonesia ⚲
This dramatic natural beach and clifftop viewpoint sits on the southwestern coast of Nusa Penida, an island off Bali renowned for its raw, untamed coastline. Kelingking is famous for its towering limestone cliff, whose silhouette curves into what many liken to a prehistoric dinosaur’s head and tail, dropping sharply toward a crescent of pale sand lapped by turquoise water far below.
Reaching the beach itself demands a steep, unshaded descent down a narrow dirt and rope-assisted path carved into the cliff face, rewarding those who make the trek with a secluded cove framed by sheer rock walls. Most visitors, however, come for the panoramic viewpoint alone, arriving at sunrise to avoid the crowds and the tropical heat.
The atmosphere is elemental and wind-swept, closer to Balinese folklore and volcanic geology than to manicured tourism. Warungs and simple stalls cluster near the entrance, offering coconuts and coffee, while the surrounding savanna hills recall a landscape more Icelandic than Indonesian, adding to the beach’s mythic, otherworldly character.
