A private natural islet cradled within the turquoise embrace of Bora Bora’s lagoon, Motu Tapu is one of French Polynesia’s most photographed slivers of paradise. Once the secluded retreat of Queen Pōmare IV in the nineteenth century, this tiny strip of pale sand and swaying coconut palms sits between the barrier reef and the emerald slopes of Mount Otemanu, framed by water that shifts from pale aquamarine to deep sapphire with every passing cloud.

Reachable only by a short boat crossing from the Conrad Bora Bora Nui resort, the motu remains free of crowds, preserving an intimacy that feels almost ceremonial — fitting, given its name means sacred island in Tahitian.
