A natural turquoise lagoon-within-a-lagoon, hidden inside the vast reef of Fakarava Atoll in the Tuamotu Archipelago. Reached only by a scenic 45-minute boat crossing from Rotoava village, this secluded basin near Motu Vaiama reveals impossibly clear, sun-warmed shallows encircled by a ring of coral and swaying coconut palms, cut off from the ocean swell by the atoll’s outer reef.

The water shifts through impossible gradients of aquamarine, cobalt, and pale jade, sheltering small reef sharks, colorful reef fish, and delicate coral gardens easily explored by snorkel.
