A remote archipelago of karst limestone islets rising from turquoise lagoons, the Wayag Islands are the crowning natural wonder of Raja Ampat in Indonesia’s West Papua. Uninhabited and fiercely protected, this cluster of jungle-draped domes encircles hidden lagoons of impossible clarity, their waters shifting between emerald, sapphire, and jade depending on the light.

Reached only by liveaboard or long boat journey through the Coral Triangle, Wayag rewards the effort with a panorama best seen from its signature viewpoint, a steep wooden staircase climbing to a ridge overlooking dozens of scattered islets. Below, reef sharks glide through crystalline shallows, hawksbill turtles surface between mangrove roots, and manta rays pass through channels rich with some of the most biodiverse coral reefs on Earth.

There are no settlements, no roads, no noise beyond wind and tide. Wayag exists at the edge of the map, a place of raw geological drama and marine abundance, where conservation efforts by local Papuan communities safeguard one of the last truly wild seascapes left in the world.
