A high alpine viewpoint in the Canadian Rockies, Nub Peak looks across Lake Magog to Mount Assiniboine, the pyramid of rock and ice often called the Matterhorn of the Rockies. The summit is broad and level, with a full panorama over Mount Assiniboine Provincial Park, which is part of the Canadian Rocky Mountain Parks UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Below you, Lake Magog lies in a basin of larch and meadow. Its colour shifts between deep blue and glacial green as the light changes. Sunburst Peak and the smaller Sunburst, Cerulean and Elizabeth Lakes complete the view. The route climbs from the lake through the Niblet and the Nublet, two smaller viewpoints that make good stops on the way up. Each one gives a different angle on the great peak.

There is no road to the park. Visitors arrive on foot over several days, or by helicopter from the Alberta side. The effort keeps the area quiet, and what you hear up here is mostly wind and the occasional marmot whistle. Go in late summer, when the larches turn gold and the trails are mostly clear of snow.
