|Whitehaven Beach and Hill Inlet Lookout Whitsunday Island, Australia ⚲
A natural white-sand beach and lookout point set within Whitsunday Islands National Park, Whitehaven Beach is celebrated as one of the world’s most pristine coastal landscapes. Stretching nearly seven kilometres along the eastern edge of Whitsunday Island, its sand is composed of almost pure silica, so fine it squeaks underfoot and never absorbs heat, remaining cool even beneath the harsh Queensland sun.
From Tongue Point, the Hill Inlet lookout track reveals the beach’s most iconic vista: swirling patterns of turquoise, cobalt and white where tidal currents constantly redraw the meeting of sand and sea. The effect shifts hour by hour, tide by tide, making every visit distinct.
Accessible only by boat, seaplane or helicopter, Whitehaven retains a remote, untouched character despite its fame. Fringed by dense eucalypt forest and granite headlands, it remains part of the traditional Country of the Ngaro people, whose maritime culture once thrived across these very waters.
