A natural turquoise lake cradled within the jagged limestone cliffs of Coron Island, Kayangan Lake is often celebrated as one of the cleanest bodies of water in the Philippines. Reached after a steep climb of roughly 360 steps through dry karst forest, the reward is a startling curtain of blue-green water so transparent that sunken rock formations and drifting fish are visible many meters below the surface.

The lake’s brackish waters, a rare blend of fresh and saline currents, create a unique underwater world where limestone stalactites plunge into the depths, inviting swimmers and snorkelers into a strikingly still, cathedral-like basin. Towering cliffs wrap around the water on all sides, muting the outside world and casting shifting light across the surface throughout the day.

This is ancestral land of the Tagbanua indigenous community, who manage and protect the site with quiet reverence, ensuring its pristine character endures. Kayangan Lake remains a serene, almost sacred counterpoint to Palawan’s more boisterous beach scenes, a place where silence, stone, and water compose a landscape.
