A natural sandbar phenomenon rising from the turquoise waters of Bacuit Bay, Snake Island — officially named Vigan Island — is one of El Nido’s most photographed island-hopping stops. At low tide, a narrow, serpentine ribbon of powder-white sand emerges to connect the main island to a smaller islet, its sinuous curve giving the sandbar its evocative nickname.

Framed by limestone karsts and impossibly clear shallows that shift from pale jade to deep cobalt, the setting feels almost engineered for drama, yet it is entirely the work of tides and currents. A short, steep climb to the island’s summit rewards visitors with a sweeping panorama of the bay’s scattered islets — one of the archipelago’s finest viewpoints.

Typically visited as part of El Nido’s Island Hopping Tour A, Snake Island carries no entrance fee of its own beyond standard eco-tourism development fees, and offers a barefoot, unhurried atmosphere shaped entirely by nature’s rhythm rather than infrastructure.
