A dramatic natural landmark off the west coast of Vágar, this pair of sea stacks and their companion islet form one of the most photographed seascapes in the Faroe Islands. Drangarnir, made up of Stóri Drangur and Lítli Drangur, rises from the North Atlantic just beyond Tindhólmur, a jagged islet whose five serrated peaks give its skyline an unmistakable silhouette.

The best vantage points lie near the village of Gásadalur. There, the land ends abruptly in steep green slopes and the ocean fills the horizon. Swells break against basalt walls, and cloud often drifts across the summits, so the scene changes from one minute to the next. On clear days the stacks stand sharp against the water. In mist they become shadows.

Visitors come for the scale and the silence, broken only by wind and seabirds. The walk to the viewpoints is short but exposed, so sturdy shoes and weatherproof layers are essential. Boat excursions from the island offer a closer, more humbling look at the formations from sea level. Come in the soft light of early morning or late evening for the most memorable views.
