A natural white-sand beach and swirling tidal estuary set within Whitsunday Islands National Park, on the Coral Sea coast of Queensland, Australia. Whitehaven Beach unfurls for seven kilometres along the eastern edge of Whitsunday Island, its sand composed of almost pure silica quartz, so fine it stays cool underfoot and remains blindingly white against the sea. At its northern tip, Hill Inlet reveals a mesmerising, ever-shifting spectacle as tidal currents braid the same silica sand through shallow channels of turquoise, jade and cobalt, forming marbled patterns best appreciated from the Tongue Point lookout above.

Framed by eucalyptus-cloaked headlands and reachable only by boat, seaplane or a short bushwalk from Tongue Bay, this protected wilderness is a sacred site to the Ngaro people and one of the most photographed natural landscapes in the Southern Hemisphere. The atmosphere is one of pristine, untouched remoteness, where wind, tide and light continuously redraw the shoreline in a slow, hypnotic choreography of colour.
