A natural glacial lagoon carved from the southern tongue of the Vatnajökull ice cap, Fjallsárlón unfolds as a mirror-still meltwater lake where cobalt and milk-blue icebergs calve silently from the crevassed snout of Fjallsjökull. Framed by snow-streaked peaks of Iceland’s southeast highlands, the lagoon offers an intimate, almost primeval counterpoint to its more famous neighbor, Jökulsárlón, drawing far fewer crowds while delivering equally dramatic scenery.
