|Whitehaven Beach and Hill Inlet Whitsunday Island, Australia ⚲
A pristine natural beach and tidal inlet forming one of the most photographed coastal landscapes on Earth. Whitehaven Beach stretches nearly seven kilometres along the eastern edge of Whitsunday Island, its sand composed of almost pure silica so fine it never grows hot underfoot, cooling the tropical air with a brilliant, otherworldly whiteness.
At its northern tip, Hill Inlet unveils an ever-shifting masterpiece: tidal currents sculpt swirling channels of turquoise, cobalt and aquamarine through the pale sand, a pattern that changes hour by hour and never repeats. Viewed from the Tongue Point lookout, the scene resembles marbled silk stretched across the Coral Sea.
Part of the protected Whitsunday Islands National Park within the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park, this untouched wilderness holds deep significance for the Ngaro Sea peoples, its waters and dunes shaped by millennia of tide and story. Reachable only by boat, seaplane or the walking track from Tongue Bay, it rewards the journey with an unrivalled sense of remote, elemental beauty.
