Cala Goloritzé, Baunei (Italy)
Discover website ↗A protected natural beach of extraordinary geological drama, Cala Goloritzé lies at the foot of the Supramonte cliffs along the Gulf of Orosei on Sardinia’s wild eastern coast. Reachable only by sea or a steep two-hour trek from the Golgo Plateau, this UNESCO-recognised shore rewards those who make the journey with water of an almost hallucinatory turquoise clarity and a shoreline of pale limestone pebbles framed by soaring white rock faces. Dominating the scene is a 143-metre limestone pinnacle — a natural spire so singular it has earned the beach the epithet of a cathedral rising from the sea. Access is strictly regulated, with a limited daily quota of visitors and a modest entry fee designed to preserve the ecosystem. No facilities, no beach bars, no umbrellas for hire: just raw Sardinian wilderness, the scent of maquis drifting down from the cliffs, and the silence of a coastline that has changed little since the island’s ancient Nuragic civilisations walked these shores.
