Hằng Nga Guesthouse Hotel, Đà Lạt (Vietnam)

Discover website ↗

This extraordinary guesthouse in the highland city of Đà Lạt is one of the most audacious works of architecture in Southeast Asia. Designed by Vietnamese architect Đặng Việt Nga — who trained at Moscow State University and drew inspiration from Gaudí and the organic forms of nature — Hằng Nga Guesthouse, universally known as the Crazy House, has been under continuous construction since 1990, evolving into a living sculpture of twisting concrete trees, cave-like corridors, and surrealist facades draped in moss and giant spider webs.

The property functions as both a working guesthouse and an open-air gallery, with ten individually themed rooms — each named after an animal or natural element — that guests can actually book for the night. Winding staircases lead to rooftop terraces offering sweeping views over Đà Lạt’s pine-forested hills. Far from a gimmick, the building is a deeply personal artistic manifesto: a rejection of rigid Soviet-era aesthetics in favour of freedom, imagination, and harmony with the natural world. It remains one of Vietnam’s most singular and unforgettable places to stay.
